Beach Shorts and Cami Set in Love Sewing no 55
Hey, so, have you picked up this months Love Sewing magazine? Spotted any familiar names in it? That's right! Sarah and I have a sewing project included; the Beach Set- exclusive to the readers of Love Sewing!
I've been planning on drafting a pair of shorts for a while, since the weather turned nice in May. I realised I didn't have any that we're comfortable and also gave decent coverage. I've made pull on shorts before and they tend to be cut quite short in the leg- not great when most of your day is spend crawling on the floor after a baby!
The shorts I needed had to cover the basics of looking relatively smart (not made in jogging fabrics) but also needed a level of comfort. I decided that a half elasticated waist was the right balance. The shorts have a flat front with pleats and elastic at the back. I've also included nice bog pockets!
For the sample seen in the magazine, we used a fun, bright cotton lawn from Lady McElroy, which paired nicely with the viscose used for the cami top also included in the magazine.
When I decided to make my pairs, I knew a pair of denim shorts would be worn a lot! I used the 4oz dark denim we sell to stitch up a casual pair which are perfect for days at the park and go with lots of my tops. I like to wear these turned up, which adds to their casual style.
I also fell in love with this natural striped linen, and sewed myself a pair of shorts from this too. The linen is thick and great quality so no chance of it being see through.
Both pairs of shorts are going to get a lot of wear this summer! They are super comfortable and perfect for lazy days.
