Hi everyone,

My name is Liz and I am also known as @thebakerthatsews over on Instagram and YouTube. I have been sewing for three years and started sewing when my husband threatened to sell my sewing machine after it had sat unboxed for the three years before that! I have always struggled to get ready to wear garments to fit me - I have narrow hips and a larger bust and never felt comfortable in ready to wear clothes.

I absolutely adore making dresses in bright colours - I love how a dress feels on me and I have definitely made more dresses than any other garment! When I saw Crafty Sew & So were looking to expand their blogger team I pushed myself to apply. I was delighted when they got in touch to ask if I would like a trial and was sent through some wonderful fabrics to browse! I am sure I am not the only sewist who counts fabric shopping as a second hobby alongside sewing!

As I have already said I adore bright colours so was immediately drawn to the floral cotton on the website. I instantly knew it had to become a Deer & Doe Myosotis dress and could not wait for the fabric to arrive. The fabric is called ‘Bright painterly Rose cotton poplin’ (Shop all cotton poplins here) and is a bargain price of £3.50 per half metre. It is 110cm wide and 100% cotton. I ordered 3 metres of the fabric as the myosotis pattern is very fabric hungry!

Once it arrived in the post I was not disappointed. Not only was it as vibrant as it looks online but it felt like high quality fabric and felt soft too. It is a cotton fabric and washed up really well. Luckily we have had a lot of warm weather in London so the fabric dried very fast.

I have used the Myosotis pattern a lot – if you look at my Instagram page you will see it is by far my favourite dress pattern so I felt pretty confident sewing it up. I always make a few adjustments to the pattern however, mainly because I prefer it to sit at my natural waist. I extended the bodice by two inches. I also like the option to bring the waist in so added waist ties. I adore the ruffle feature of the pattern and chose to add all the ruffles! I love how bright and busy the fabric is and for this reason it doesn’t matter if the fabric is cut into. I also added pockets because we always need pockets! The pattern has a button placket down the front so I added pretty red buttons using purple thread to match the thread I used to sew it up. I cannot wait to swish around in this during the summer.

I have got my eye on quite a few more fabrics on the Crafty Sew & So website – such a great range and fantastic customer service.

Thanks for reading,

Liz
