New Dresses For Easter

One of my favourite traditions for holidays is making my girls a new dress for the occasion.

This was our first Easter as a family of four and I was feeling very ready for a weekend of sunshine!  We've been lucky to have beautiful weather so far and none of that promised snow.  It's the perfect opportunity to start my spring/summer sewing and make a couple of sundresses for my daughters.

My eldest is currently loving being a big sister so I thought I would take advantage of this and make them matching dresses before either of them is too old for such things.  We had a browse of my stash and my oldest chose this beautiful cotton floral I brought home from the shop.  The bright blue and yellow print is ideal for spring, and I had just enough to make each girl a dress each if I used a plain fabric for the facings.  Sadly this cotton is sold out now, but we have lots of fabulous cottons in our shop.

My go to little girls dress is our Mini Pinny Dress, which I have made so many times, I've lost count.  I reach for it when I need a present for a friends daughter and whenever I see a cotton I know my big girl will love.  It's quick to make too, so I can sew on together in about two hours.

The mini-pinny dress has a slight a-line shape for the younger sizes, which is very cute!  and has over the shoulder fastenings, so you can choose to try out buttonholes or use snap fastenings.  I've gone for buttons from my stash for my eldest and snaps for the baby.  I intended on both snaps being the same colour, but had a mishap and had to make the two colours a 'design feature' instead.

Well, in the end we had a fantastic Easter Sunday, finally able to spend some time with my sister and enjoying the glorious sunshine in the garden.  We're feeling very blessed on this special day!
