Live Online Workshop Set-Up Guide

For all our live online sewing workshops, we recommend you take a little time to get your kit together and get set up ready for the workshop.

To help you prepare for the workshop we have sent you a separate list of Sewing kit essentials and we would recommend you take time to gather these before the workshop to be fully prepared. You can also watch a video on setting up your sewing space at on our YouTube channel- we have sent you a link in you booking email.

We are using Zoom to connect with you for this workshop. This is a free app and very easy to use!

Zoom can be accessed through a number of different devices:

  • Laptop
  • PC
  • Tablet
  • Phone- Android or Apple

You can access the Zoom meeting through your internet browser but the connection will be more stable if you download the Zoom app beforehand so we would recommend doing this.

For the best experience we recommend using the device with the largest screen possible.  If possible, please use a laptop or tablet to view the workshop so that your phone is free and you have a large screen to see all the details of the workshop.

Please make sure this is plugged in to a power outlet as video streaming can drain batteries very quickly!

Please try to be ready and available 15 minutes before the workshop scheduled start time so that there are no delays for other participants. Don’t forget your cuppa!

If I don't see you online I will call you 5-10 minutes before the start of the workshop. I will ask you to go into your emails and click on the link I have emailed to you. The subject title of this email will be Live Online Workshop - (workshop name)

The email may go into your junk so please check there.

When I call you, I will ask you to click on the link in the email and you will enter the waiting room. I will then grant you access to the meeting.

I will check your settings then may put you on hold until the workshop begins.

There are 3 buttons you need to be aware of to use during the workshop

  1. Mute (bottom left)– when you come into the meeting you will automatically be on mute – I will unmute you when you enter the meeting. If you need to have and private conversations of-line during the workshop you can use this button to mute your audio.
  2. Chat (bottom centre) if you have a comment or question which is not urgent or to do with the project specifically please pop it in here and I can pick up on it between instructions – you can use this if you wish to discuss or order any products too! We will stop for breaks and I will make time to answer questions at this time and at the end also.
  1. The above image also shows where you can find the view options. You can change the view so you can see either just the host in Speaker View or the other participants too in Gallery View. I recommend you view in gallery mode so you can see the other participants. If you need to see details of my demos you can click on my video and select “pin video” to enlarge this.

When it is time for a break during the session or at the end, you can select gallery view and you will see everyone else in the group and can all have a chat!

We hope you will join us for a workshop very soon!
