Dressmaking - Copy your Clothes

Sorry, out of stock

Have you got a favourite garment, a top or a dress, which you would like to wear all the time and need multiple versions off?  Come along to our Copy Your Clothes workshop and we will help you to create a pattern from your garment without taking apart your original.   Bring along a favourite top, simple dress or other jersey or simple woven garment and learn how to use it to create a pattern so you can recreate it at home.

Important This course is not suitable for beginners.  You should have made a few garments before and have a good understanding of basic construction skills to attend the course.  Because of the limited time in the workshop, we recommend you choose a garment that isn't too complicated.  If you're not sure, please bring more than one garment and our tutor will advise you.

What you will learn:

  • How to make a pattern using a garment you already own

  • How to plan and write your own construction notes

  • Discussion about different techniques for construction

  • How to choose the best finishes for your garment and fabric

What is included:

  • All equipment required

  • Paper for drafting

  • Tea and biscuits

You will need to bring:

  • Toiling fabric of similar weight and composition to your original garment - we recommend 2m for a top or trousers, 3m for a dress (contact us if you need advice on this)

All equipment and thread are provided in this workshop but you will need to provide your own fabric (please see fabric requirements).   You may have time to toile in the class, and should expect to finish at home.  You will leave with your own instructions for your pattern.

There is a maximum of 4 guests in this workshop.
