This weeks Crafty Bloggers Club post is from Laura, you can find more of her makes on Instagram @thespeckyseamstress and on her vlog here!

Hi, I’m Laura a.ka The Specky Seamstress and I am delighted to be making my debut here on the Crafty Sew and So blog.

We are all in need of a little comfort right now, and I don’t know about you, but whether the sun is shining or not, the winds are a bit chilly and being home all day I am just craving cosying up in a comfy jumper - and if its bright and cheerful, all the better!

If you follow me on Instagram or Youtube you’ll know I love a good jumper and also a good colourblock opportunity so I was really excited to make the Casey - its been on my list for a little while, there are so many lovely versions out there. I like the unusual style lines that give you a chance to play with prints and also just gives a different garment than a standard jumper - it gives a ‘put together’ feel somehow, with a cowl and buttons and angular long cuffs.

I won’t lie, it took me a long time to choose what fabrics I wanted to use - there are so many lovely sweatshirting fabrics available in the shop - but this flecked mustard fleece backed number called to me - I don’t wear yellow a huge amount but the yellow makes I have are being worn a lot right now.  The dancing ladies jersey was a perfect pair - a fabric I’ve cooed over but always unsure what I’d make - the Casey offered the perfect chance to add a bit of flair with this fun print without it being a whole garment.  And perfectly, the flecks in the sweatshirting match the colours in the cuffs perfectly - a happy accident I am delighted with!

When my happy mail arrived, the fleecey mustard fabric became a blanket before it became a jumper - its so soft and cosy! I had to wrestle it back off my husband (Which probably means he will be requesting a hoodie of his own soon…).

Experimental Space patterns always offer beautiful and unusual shapes in their patterns - classic garments with a twist and the Casey is no exception - I don’t know why I haven’t made it sooner because I love cosying up in a cowl but didn’t have any in my wardrobe!  Don’t be put off if you think it looks tricky - Andrea offers fabulous instructions to make what might look complicated a breeze to sew - the cowl is an easy and beautiful addition and some stretch interfacing made sewing buttonholes on jersey (a new one for me!) a smooth experience.

I am already plotting some more Caseys - how about snapping up some of the navy sweatshirting and pairing it with some bright striped jersey cuffs?  Or even reversing the cowl to show off your contrast fabric?  Or picking some fun parts of your fabric for beautiful covered buttons?  There’s so many versions I want to make - the problem will be picking which one to make next!

‘Til next time - keep well, keep cosy, and keep sewing!
