Sustainability and Eco Policy

We’ve always been environmentally conscious as individuals, so it made sense to apply our personal habits to the business.

What are we doing at Crafty Sew & So to be a more sustainable business?

  • We prioritise sourcing fabrics that are GOTS and Oeko-Tex 100 certified from our suppliers
  • We source high quality and premium fabrics for garments and projects which can last a life time if treated correctly.
  • When sourcing fabrics we are looking to stock more natural fibres such as linen, ramie, organic cotton, and fabrics that are deemed more eco-friendly.
  • When we can we source deadstock fabrics, these are usually fabrics from well-known high-street stores and designer brands, and fabrics that are left over from textile mills.
  • We’re actively seeking out more deadstock and recycled fabrics to stock.
  • We ask the brands we source our stock from about the manufacturing process, and actively support fabric manufacturers who are open about how their fabric is produced.
  • We recycle any packaging that we can by using the recycling facilities in the building that Crafty Sew & So is based
  • We sell fabric remnants at a reduced price to prevent them going to waste
  • Fabrics left from sampling and workshops, or damaged offcuts are offered to local charities for free.
  • We buy and use recycled paper and plastics wherever we can, including in our printer, our envelopes for patterns and will make the switch to recycled materials at every opportunity.
  • We’re committed to working with local suppliers, including our printing for our pattern ranges.
  • All of our packaging that we use are recyclable and plastic free. Our eco mailing bags are fully recyclable, biodegradable, plastic free, made from sustainably sourced materials, and manufactured completely carbon neutrally.

What can you do at home?

  • Recycle or reuse the packaging that your parcel arrives in.
  • Be mindful of how you use your fabrics, scraps and off cuts. There are lots of fun and simple ways to use up your scraps.  We offer a number of projects on our blog as inspiration.
  • Once you’ve made your projects, consider how best to take care of it – loved clothes last. Whenever possible, machine wash on a cool setting, dry naturally and mend garments if they get damaged.

Between us we can make small but impactful changes in this world.  Thank you for supporting us.
