One of my favourite things about running Crafty Sew & So is seeing new sewers faces when everything clicks into place for them during one of our beginners workshops!

We've been running 'Start as you mean to SEW on- Introduction to Sewing' since we were running workshops in the tiny studio in Sileby, and it remains one of the most popular workshops!  In the three hour session for new sewers we cover the basics of setting up your sewing machine, tips and tricks, and you make two projects- a needle book and a envelope cushion cover!  The workshop is designed to build your confidence and teach you a nice range of skills so you can go on to do more sewing at home or join us for another workshop.  

After 'SAYMTSO' (as we call it), there are a number of workshops which are perfect next steps.  Which one you choose to do depends on what you fancy sewing- we've got 'Learn to Sew' sessions for people interested in general sewing, quilting and dressmaking!

General Sewing- Homewares and Accessories

 To develop a range of different sewing skills, you should come along to any of our 'Learn to Sew' homewares and accessories workshops, including tote bags, fabric boxes, party bunting, a lined shopping bag or a zipped make up bag.  All these workshops are run regularly, so check out the latest time table here.

Quilting

To pick up all the basic techniques for quilting and patch work, join us for one of our Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting Workshops.  In this class, you’ll learn easy ways to measure, cut and sew your first small patchwork project, and pick up tips and tricks to develop your skills.  You'll make a sample piece in the workshop, and learn skills to try your hand at a larger project at home.

Dressmaking

A lot of people are getting in to dressmaking for the first time at the moment, and it's both mine and Sarah's favourite area of sewing.  Dressmaking can feel quite daunting, but we have beginners sessions which are suitable for people with minimal sewing experience.  

Learn to Sew- Pyjamas or Pyjama shorts are both suitable for people who have only made one or two things before- the patterns are super simple, and you will learn all the essential dressmaking techniques on a low pressure garment.  After all, they're only going to be worn around the house!

You can also join us for our Learn to Sew- Childrens Pinny Dress workshop.  Sew a children's dress out of bright cotton, cord or robust lightweight denim- perfect for little ones. The pattern comes in ages 1-8 years, and also includes lots of basic dressmaking techniques in a small garment.
