I’ve been very excited to welcome customers back in since we moved in to our Makers Yard Studio, which is within a beautiful listed building that was once a thriving hosiery factory!

We’re loving being able to bring the buzz and vibrancy of workshops back in! We’ve held some fantastic beginners sessions already this year, which saw brand new sewists experience the joy that sewing brings.

Attendees to the full day beginners workshops learned how to set up the machine and sew their first stitches before creating their first projects; a useful needle case, envelope cushion cover and tote bag.

These skill-packed sessions saw the new sewists learning a multitude of techniques they will use in many sewing projects to come including stitching, pressing, sewing thick layers, sewing correct seam allowances, finishing raw edges, creating french seams, adding a patch pocket and sew much more!

Show interest in attending a beginners class here!

Our new full day classes for 2022 will introduce even more exciting and useful sewing techniques to you whilst making beautiful projects you’ll love!

Let me tell you more about 2 that I am particularly excited to be able to offer…

Learn to Sew Jersey Fabric and make beautiful babywear with Zareen

You can learn how to tame this often intimidating fabric and sew jersey clothing on a smaller scale for the littlies in your life!

This full day in-person class is ideal for beginners to sewing jersey fabrics.

You will make a super cute set including a top, baby grow or sleep shirt using the versatile Pick and Mix pattern and Leggings using the Lightening Leggings pattern, both by Waves and Wild and suitable for sizes 0-4 years.

This is a great first jersey fabric project and a lovely introduction to sewing babywear.

 About your tutor:

The class will be led by Zareen, our resident babywear expert, with Crafty Sew and So Founder, Sarah on hand to help too!

Zareen has been making babywear for her own children’s and lucky extended family members for over 4 years and loves sewing with jersey fabrics. She’ll show you lots of tips and tricks she uses to make sewing with jersey a breeze!

Find out more about what Zareen loves to make and why check out her video on our YouTube channel now.

In the workshop, we'll start at the very beginning with a full run through what equipment you need and how to set up the machine and your workspace ready to sew. We'll help you create your first stretch stitches and over the course of the day you will construct your first jersey fabric garment which will equip you with key skills you need for your next sewing projects!

This class is proving popular so don’t delay book in now!

Learn essential pattern making skills with Pattern Cutting expert Cath

This full day course will teach you the essential skills to begin designing your own patterns, whether for pleasure or for business.

You will learn pattern making skills working with your own bespoke block (template made to your body measurements) to create a pattern for a top, including design details of your choice.

Before the class date, we will collect your measurements and a tailored bodice block will be drafted specifically for you. This wonderful tool will allow you to make garments to fit you! If you would like a standard size block to create patterns for others we are happy to provide this instead; just let us know!

About your tutor:

Cath McBean worked as a pattern cutting lecturer for many years at The London College of Fashion and Ravensbourne College of Art. She then went on to work as a freelance pattern cutter, designer and bespoke dressmaker, and designed and made bespoke wedding dresses.

Cath's specialist skill is drafting a pattern the old fashioned way, on paper! Then making a toile to perfect the fit.

I'll also be on hand to assist with this class and we will both help you every step of the way with demonstrations and advice.

This unique opportunity to have your own block made for you and then learn how to use it to start making your own patterns isn’t available anywhere else!

Book now, it’s sure to be very popular

I can't wait to see you in a workshop very soon!

Happy Sewing!
