What happened at the SEW Leicester Sewcial Meet and Sewing Day 2022?
On a sunny Sunday in March, 18 sewists met, sewed and sewcialised together at the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester for our first SEW Leicester Sewcial Meet and Sewing Day!
We all quickly got to know each other, relishing the opportunity to meet up and chat whilst enjoying a full indulgent day of sewing! All manor of creations were worked on during the day.
Isobel was the first to complete a finished make - this super roomy quilted tote bag!
Jane (my Mum!) finished a hoody using our soon to be release My Handmade Wardrobe pattern and then set to work on another MHW 3 by 3 tee.
Emma made a gorgeous green Tilly and the Buttons Pearl cardi.
Judith whipped up a stunning knit dress is beautiful colbalt blue!
Becky made good headway on her gingham patchwork quilt top.
Michelle was making a drum stick holder from her mum - such a great personal gift! And I gave her a helping hand setting a sleeve on a georgette blouse, not an easy task, but you know what they say about many hands making light work!
Emma, co-host and Crafty tutor, was happy to share our top tips for creating beautiful darts with Libby to help her make good progress with her in double gauze. It's a tricky stretchy fabric but Emmas tips really helped Libby get to grips with it.
Helen completed and immediately changed into her fun peter pan collar dress! I always love a hot-off-the-machine-post-make wardrobe change!
There was a lot of discussion about overlockers and I whipped up a few handy reusable make-up wipes myself!
Julie, who recently attended our Learn to Love Your Overlocker course was working on her edge to edge cardi and swapping tips with Jane who also attended!
Helen was having a small issue with the tension on her overlocker so I showed her a few tips and in return she invited me to give it a try, it was a dream to use!
I talked with Helen abut her exciting collaborations with Lady McElroy Fabrics to create fabulous samples to showcase their fabrics for shows and events.
We also took the MHW sample rail on tour and Sew Leicester attendees were able to see them up-close, get inspired and pick up copies of our patterns too!
All attendees received a goodie bag packed full of fabrics, Crafty Patterns, haby gifts and discounts. Thanks so much to our sponsors The Sewing Cafe, Bobbins and Buttons, Minerva, Pattern printing girl, Sew Essential, Sewcial studio and Sew Affordable.
Everyone had a fantastic day and the sewing chat continues in our dedicated Whatsapp group!
It was a fantastic way to spend a lovely Sunday surrounded by fellow sewing enthusiasts, sharing sewing tips, stories and plans!
Our next big sewcial sewing event is the Crafty Sewing Camp! This will be held at Beaumanor Hall again from Friday 12th- Sunday 14th August! Find out more about last years event here!
Tickets go on sale at the end of April so make sure you sign up to our mailing list to be the first in line!
Happy Sewing!
