Recommended Fabrics

Pick a fabric which presses easily for a neat finish. Choosing a fabric with a little bit of natural crosswise stretch will make setting the collar that bit easier. A drapey fabric with some weight which gathers well is an ideal choice for the long sleeve version.

Suggested fabrics:

Light to medium weight woven fabrics with some stability and structure including chambray, georgette, viscose challis, viscose twill, lightweight linen, satin, morrocain crepe, cotton lawn, cotton voile, cotton poplin.

Notions:

A small hook and eye, or a small 5mm-1cm button and 10-5cm loop of elastic or ribbon, 50cm light to medium weight fusible interfacing, 1m bias binding for long sleeve.

Equipment:

Sharp fabric scissors, sewing machine with regular needle, sharp pins, basic sewing tools.

Sizing

It is vitally important, when sewing your own clothes, to take accurate measurements of your body, and not rely on the sizing you expect to buy on the high street. This is why we’ve switch out the usual sizes (eg, 8-22) for our own system of numbers 1-8. You have to measure yourself to pick your size!
